Also, sometimes handles do appear at the end of the start and end segments when the link is first created, and sometimes not. And again independently they sometimes do and don't appear when a link redraw is forced by moving one of the linked nodes. Is there any way of ensuring consistency in this behaviour, so that's it never or always?
